Local and National Events

The best way for us, the people, to show our support to those campaigning for our hospital services is to take part in as many events as possible. Behind any good campaign is a dedicated group of people who need to argue our case. They need to show valid reasons why we need our services in this area, it needs to be put across in a serious, professional manner to the NHS groups concerned. It is the power of the people behind them that gives them the backing to do this. The size of the crowds and the publicity gained gives the group the credibility to push our cause forwards.

Below is a list of events past and present. For pictures of events held so far click on the link.
We will be having more events and need your constant support until we win the case for our hospital.

Wyndham Park Rally - September 9th 2006

The rally held in Grantham's Wyndham Park was attended by many thousands of local people concerned about our hospital services. Guest speakers were

  • Journal editor Tim Robinson
  • Mayor of Grantham John Wilks
  • Health scrutiny panel for Lincolnshire members John Hurst and Margery Radley
  • Hospital campaigner Mike Williams
  • Retired Grantham Hospital A&E consultant Lakshmi Chakrabarti
  • MP for Grantham Quentin Davies

A successful rally. The people of Grantham turned out in numbers to demand our hospital services are no longer reduced. Quentin Davies MP said that Grantham hospital should no longer have its services reduced while Lincoln and Boston are built up at our expense. The towns Mayor, John Wilks, gave his support to stopping any more reductions in hospital services.

Lakshmi Chakrabarti, retired A&E consultant raised an important point regarding demographics across the trust. The population of the area does not merit further cuts.

Support for the breast clinic at the hospital received much crowd applause and chanting demonstrating that its not just the A&E which worries them, the other services are just as important.

Nottingham Demo - September 23rd 2006

The coach which took us to Nottingham was sponsored by The Olde Barn Hotel, Marston. Many thanks for your support.

The demonstration in Nottingham was in conjunction with Unison and the Royal College of Nursing to protest against hospital cuts across the whole of the East Midlands. Astonishingly over 5000 nhs staff comprising of long term skilled nurses, doctors etc. are being made redundant. People who have cared for the sick and needy with over twenty years of experience are being removed from the health service while more and more management are paid ever increasing sums of money.

The group from Grantham appeared on East Midlands today (BBC) where spokesman, Peter Gibson, gave an excellent account of the fight for Grantham hospital.
